I've been to the DJ-Day at my local
music store and, to be honest, had quite a blast on the new Novation controller coming out this summer: The Twitch
This new controller is the first of it's kind, as it is an approach to provide an all-in-one solution (FX+Transports+Mixer) without Jog-Wheel. The Pitch-Faders are replaced by rotary encoders.
For anyone playing "black" music this might be a desaster, as scratching (which is enabled on the LED touch-strips) is hardly possiple. But this is definitely not the target group of this beast.
The Twitch rocks Electronic-Dance-Music of any kind with the following features:
- New and really exciting Slicer
- 8 dedicated Cue-Pads for each Deck
- Great loop-roll feature
- Fader FX
I had my hands on this thing and the upper mentioned features really impressed me, especially the Fader-FX pretty much nailed it!
The only downside is that the pads could be slightly larger (at least for my Yeti-like hands) and more responsive. Oh, and it's for Itch, and not natively supports Traktor... (still acts as a normal MIDI controller with any sofware)
Itch itself has new features to be coming up:
BRIDGE FOR ITCH
The promoter was pretty excited to tell the big news about this collaboration with ableton.
It is supposed to work like The Bride for Serato, with real-time recording of any action on your controller, incorporating the option to record your whole set and manipulate it afterwards in ableton like an ableton-live set, and lauching clips from ableton inside your Itch-GUI.
Expect this Software in Q3 2011 is what he said... you know... thats what he said.
